Apple watch series 4 won't pair with iPhone 5s

Hello, I have an iPhone 5s and tried to pair an Apple watch series 4 with it, but it gives me the message that the iPhone is out of date. Is it still possible to pair them? I bought a used model that doesn't have cellular capabilities. I also updated my iPhone 5s to the latest software that it will support. I know that the series 4 with cellular capability is incompatible with the 5s, but I checked the digital crown on the watch and there's no red ring around it either. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 12 or later. Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS) requires an iPhone 5s or later with iOS 12 or later.

However, if the Apple Watch series 4 has been updated to a newer watchOS than it was shipped with, it may no longer be compatible with the iPhone 5s. Exactly what iOS and watchOS versions do you have?
