Apple Care Coverage

This is such a simple question; I'm almost embarrassed to have to bring it here. But, I am not getting any consistent answers.... even from Apple Sales & Customer Service Reps.

If one purchases Apple Care for their Apple Watch and the battery meets Apple's criteria for replacement while still covered by the Apple Care policy is the battery replacement free or does it fall under the "per incident" service fee requirement?
