Keep Always On Display Active When Away From Watch

I charge my iPhone on a wireless charger on my bedside table at night, and like to keep the always on display on, so I can see the time at night, and any notifications etc

However I note that when its paired with my Apple Watch, which I take off at night and leave downstairs, the always on display does not work.

So my question is... is there a setting where I can continue to use the always on display when the iPhone is on charge on my nightstand and whilst away from the watch?

PS its an iPhone 14 Pro and watch ultra 2

No it does not, as that just lists how to physically turn it on, which is not the reason for my post.

As I mentioned, it seems that the always on display setting, even when enabled doesn't keep the display on when I've taken my Apple Watch off at night and put my phone on charge on my nightstand, which indicates some kind of power saving anomaly associated with the watch not being connected / on my wrist
