Which version of Apple Watch OS is compatible with Apple IOS 17.7?

My Apple Watch 8 (Watch OS 10.6.1) no longer works with my iPhone 15Pro (IOS 17.7). It is not working at all. I can't change the faces or do anything with the watch. I just updated the iPhone 15Pro to IOS 17.7. Are these operating systems not compatible? I have not tried to update the Watch OS but it says that the iPhone must be updated first. I suspect that the watch may have updated automatically?? Do I have to update the iPhone to IOS 18.1 now? is the Watch OS 10.6.1 compatible with IOS 18.1 and won't it work with IOS 17.7? Very little help on line or here in the community.

Did you already force restart both devices?

To force restart the watch, press and hold the Digital Crown and the Side button together for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.

You can not pair your watch and iPhone, if your watch has watchOS 11 preinstalled, and your iPhone has not been upgraded to iOS 18.

I updated the iPhone 15 Pro to IOS 18.0.1 and the Apple Watch 8 to watchOS 11.0.1 and the watch is now working. Should have tried the restart first. But, now both are up to date. Thanks for your help.
