iPhone 16 backup 4x the size of iPhone 15 for the exact same information

I just switched from an iPhone 15 Pro Max to an iPhone 16 Pro Max. I kept the old backup on iCloud.

I am surprised to see that while the old backup was 3.9GB, the new one is 15GB, for the exact same content. Same OS version, same exact content right after copying the data over directly between the phones. I did not restore from backup but moved the content from the previous phone and then did an iCloud backup of the new phone. Size quadrupled.

How is this possible? What is Apple doing???

Hi, I am not fully sure but I will share my guess. Most likely what happened is that first off, it re-backed-up your 4GB again so that explains how it could get from 4-8. It also could be that since iCloud backs up stuff from all your devices, you were looking at a different section, like the my phone section, and now you are looking at the whole iCloud section. Not sure but this is my best guess. Maybe someone else on the community will correct me but I hope this helped.
