My swipe bar used to fade when not in use but now it’s permanently visible after updating to iOS 18. This makes taking screenshots of full screen photos annoying because the swipe bar is visible. Please make it fade again!

The bar still fades for me after a few seconds on iOS 18.0.1. Try to rotate your iPhone (landscape to portrait or vice versa) to see if it works again. Also try to restart your iPhone or force restart it.
Rotating & restarting did not help, although force restarting seems to have helped. I’ve narrowed it down to the Facebook app when I have a photo from a post opened to full screen.
Are you on the beta version of iOS 18? The bar does not fade, because it’s currently used to activate the written version of AI Siri.
