iPhone 16 stops charging typically at 80%

That is the normal message you get if you have Optimized Battery Charging enabled. Once the charge gets to 80%, the phone stops charging and waits for the battery to cool down some before continuing. Batteries always get warm while charging.

Actually, it’s independent of Optimized Charging. It will do it whether that’s on or off when fast charging.

At the risk of stating the obvious, could you just let it cool off?

That said, iPhones often switch to slow charge mode specifically at 80% to protect the device.
