i want to ship the new iphone to my sisters location in detroit and want to trade in my older iphone at houston, texas… is it possible to get the trade in kit at houston and new iphone shipped to detroit.

You don't have to send your phone in using a trade in kit. I suspect the trade in kit will automatically be sent to the same address the phone is shipped too. As such, once your sister has received the phone, just take your phone to an Apple Store close to you in Houston, and complete the trade there. Every year, Apple sends me a trade in kit and every year, I don't use it and trade my phone at my Apple Store.
