Using Apple TV 4k (3rd Generation) as HomeKit Hub

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about getting an Apple TV 4K and have a quick question. Since it’s advertised as a Home Hub like the HomePod, can I move it after setup— for example, under the counter near my Wi-Fi router—without losing its HomeKit Hub functionality? I'm a bit hesitant to unplug it, and since it only uses the power cable (and no HDMI), will that affect anything? Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks!

The Apple TV box wants a screen attached. Please use it as intended, for best functionality. It is a pretty awesome streaming device, so why not use it as such? Probably better than the smart OS of your TV (I can easily say that for any TV).

It needs internet connectivity to do its home hub duties. Additionally:

  • Wi-Fi HomeKit accessories will try to connect over the home network.
  • Bluetooth HomeKit accessories may want to connect.
  • Thread™ accessories may want to connect (directly for the A2169 and A2843; not the A2737; indirectly over the home network if you have other Thread border routers).
