Health App Search Not Working on iPhone

Hey everyone,

Just posting this here in case anyone has any future issues because it was driving me mad and I couldn't find a solution with a quick Google.

If every search you do within Apple Health doesn't show any results and instead shows "No Results Found for 'Term.' Check the spelling or try a new term." then it might be because of Apple's Advanced Data Protection.

For some reason, when Advanced Data Protection is turned on within iOS, it stops the Apple Health search function from fetching anything. You can still manually find information and everything within the Health app functions and updates normally with ADP turned on but trying to remember where the vision prescription card is when you need to put your contact lenses in is a struggle no one else should go through.

If you're willing to turn off Advanced Data Protection to get that search function back:

• Turn off ADP
• Close out Health and Settings and restart the phone.
• My 17.4.1 device pretty much immediately enabled the Search function again (fewer things connected maybe, as it's a backup phone) whereas my primary phone on 18.0.1 required me to force a sync
• To force a sync of Apple Health go to your name at the top of Settings > iCloud > Saved to iCloud - See all > Health > Turn off Sync > Delete data on iPhone > Restart sync
• If you don't want to force a sync and delete your data, in theory when Health next syncs to the iCloud it should fix it (as it did with the 17.4.1 device) but I had a support rep on the phone and didn't want to keep him forever so just did the force sync.

My 250MB of Health data is still downloading about 20 minutes later but I can see that if I start searching, things start populating instead of just seeing "No results found" – the support rep also said it can take a while to download everything.

This doesn't affect iPadOS, my ability to Search within Apple Health on iPad was fine regardless of ADP.
