New iPad Pro with m4 keeps getting messages about over heating and battery quits charging

I just bought the newest iPad Pro (2024) 13 inch to replace my older 12.9. And it keeps getting super hot and gives messages about battery quit charging due to heat. Is this normal with the newer models as I never had this issue with my older one and I could use it for hours with no issues. Trying to figure out if my new one is a lemon. help!

It is not unusual for an iPad to become warm when being used - more so when using some types of iPad case. High screen brightness and/or CPU intensive Apps will also create more heat.

The key point is that whilst your iPad may become very warm in normal use, the iPad should not become uncomfortably hot to handle. If your iPad is becoming too hot to hold, you should take your iPad along to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store - where the technicians can examine and test your iPad for faults.

If the iPad was purchased directly from Apple - and is within its 14-day unconditional return period - you might be well advised to avail yourself of the opportunity to swap the iPad for a new device whist you can. After expiry of 14-days, for a warranty claim, you may instead be offered an exchange for a reconditioned iPad of the same model and specification.

Hi TRM7,

Your iPad is overheating. You must leave the iPad in a ventilated spot/room and leave it there for some time, once that iPad cools down, you may charge it. Also, don’t use a fast charger, like a computer charger, or a Nintendo charger.

Your new iPad is not broken or damaged in anyway, it’s just it overheating; the iPad takes certain precautions so it doesn’t break due to the battery getting damaged.
