I’ve got an ancient late 2009 IMac which I wiped when I purchased a MacBook. Now I’ve tried to reinstall High Sierra (the latest OS still compatible) and whilst I was able to download the oOS via my MacBook onto a usb drive, I cannot figure out how to load onto the old IMac. I think I need a down-loader program? Whatever that is, but at the moment the IMac is less than useless. Any ideas? Thanks.

What is the true model and year of the MacBook? Air, Pro or just MacBook?
If 2017 or older, then you may be able to create a bootable USB installer for High Sierra that you can use on the iMac.

Use its original, grey, System Install DVD. It was included with iMacs from mid-2011 and earlier, and must accompany them from cradle to grave.
