Why does iPhone take burst photos in timer mode?

I’m worried why Apple take burst photos in selfie timer mode.

Some people blink when having their picture taken, and if the phone takes a burst of 10 photos, there might be some in which a person's eyes weren't closed.

Some workarounds are to set the camera to live mode or flash, or use a 3rd party camera app:
