How to disable Face ID for WhatsApp on iPhone?

Just for the sake of trying it, I turned on Face ID for opening WhatsApp. Therefore, you first change the setting in the settings app for the iPhone, then after that you turn on the setting in the app itself.I didn’t like it I wanted to turn it off, so I turned off both settings, so both in the app and in the iPhone settings. But it will not shut off. If they’re both switched on, it asked for face ID twice if you turn them both off, it keeps asking for Face ID once. I cannot find any solution on the Internet. I have restarted the phone many times, and that also doesn’t help.

I happened upon an article on MacReports website entitled 'How to Turn On and Off Face ID for WhatsApp' dated November 19, 2024 which was up to date with settings options - so it looks like what was on my phone - and two methods.

And so I went with Method 2 - which is/was the 'long hold' on the Home Screen icon.

Method 1 - which I'd found elsewhere, though the Settings options were different to my iOS settings list, simply didn't work. Going through WhatsApp settings and/or Apple Settings / Face ID etc was a waste of my time. Although the 'settings' were graded out and suggested Face ID wasn't operative I couldn't stop WhatsApp - or Messenger or text messages - from INSISTING on Face ID.

So long hold and remove worked perfectly, first time. AND so quick.

Thank you, I found that same solution by coincidence myself 2 days ago. I reluctantly decided to delete the app and later reinstall it. So therefore, I long pressed the apps icon, and there it was so simple.Yet so hard to find, it took me over a week and a lot of aggravation.

Very unsettling that you can’t find the right answer anywhere With WhatsApp itself

you have to tap and hold the app logo and options will appear

It doesn’t turn off by pressing and holding. On your Home Screen find the WhatsApp logo. When you press and hold a small menu will appear. See picture.

Thanks so much for advice on turning off Face ID for WhatsApp I’ve been trying everything ( or so I thought). I’m hoping this is why when I get a WhatsApp phone call in my car they can’t hear me when I answer it and by switching off Face ID it will allow me to answer calls. This has only happened since getting a new iPhone 16 my old iPhone 12 worked ok in my car.
