iPhone mirroring - how to change language from mac?

I am experiencing an issue where I am unable to switch languages when controlling my iPhone from my Mac. The language switching works fine when using the iPhone directly, but when I access the iPhone through my Mac, this function seems to be disabled or unresponsive.
