The Find my iphone alert awakened me when it went off at 2am. Both my watch and phone were charging beside my bed. What would the cause be? Should I be concerned? Change my passwords?

Do you share an Apple ID with someone else, like wife, child, etc.? If you do, they could have set it off from their iPhone. Apple ID's are NOT meant to be shared as each family should have their own unique Apple ID.
If you would have better peace of mind by changing your Apple ID Password, sure, change it. And it really won't make any difference where you change it. Apple, btw, no longer calls it an Apple ID. They call it Apple Account.

Then I can think of nothing which would make Find My go off on a phone which was on your nightstand being charged in the middle of the night. Keep an eye on it and if it happens again, let us know.
