Is UTM safe to download to my MacBook?

I want to download Kali Linux and I want to know If I can trust UTM to not like do anything bad to my MacBook,

UTM is the only way I know how to download Kali Linux, I just want to know if its safe for my MacBook? I use a MacBook Air 13" with an M1 chip.

It's on the App Store, so it has been vetted by Apple as safe.


Not that this system is perfect, but in general, anything you get from the App Store has a high level of trust.


I've also used it myself to run my genuine copy of MS-DOS 6.x to see how well it could run ancient games. Worked very well. Though that's not hard to do when system requirements for software that old are pretty small.
