Apple Watch Ultra tearing my thin skin

It seems as I’ve “matured”, my skin has greatly thinned. I arrived home from my walk tonight to find that a small hole tore in my skin at the area where my Apple Watch Ultra contacts my wrist on the multi-function button side. It caused a bleed that went further under my skin causing a substantial bruise, but also bled under the watch and into the Digital Crown. I was able to wash the blood off the watch, but now thinking about how I can protect my skin from further tearing. Has anyone found a means of softening the edges on the Apple Watch Ultra, or found some sort of skin guard that works under the watch? Thanks in advance for any help you could offer. I use my watch extensively, and would be lost without it!!

Any kind of guard under the Watch will almost certainly block many of its functions and quite probably block even the wrist detection. I would suggest first taking your Watch to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service center to examine it and see if there's a manfacturing defect or damage that has caused a sharp edge or burr.

If not, I'd recommend talking to your doctor who may refer you to a dermatologist with whom you can discuss your situation. Meanwhile, you should of course change the Watch to your other wrist while the injury heals.

Regards.

First please contact your primary care physician and discuss the situation. Then go to a well stocked drug store and buy some moleskin. Cut small pieces of mole skin and fit them along the edge of your Ultra.

Moleskin is usually found in the foot care section it has a soft cushioning surface the reduces the friction that will cause tearing of the skin. Hikers, backpackers and climbers have used moleskin for decades to prevent blisters and to relieve blisters that have developed.

Thanks! I tried moving the watch to the other wrist, but couldn’t get used to the feel. I covered the open tear with a band-aid and then wrapped that with some elastic bandage around the wrist to keep the band-aid from peeling off while it heals. I don’t see any burrs or rough edges on the watch, but the Digital Crown is more difficult to turn - probably the result of dried blood in the stem. I’ve tried washing several times and it is getting easier to turn. Hoping that once the tear is healed, it won’t happen again. Since the tear in the skin was at the outer edge, the bandage I fastened is not interfering with the sensors. May have to ask my Dermatologist if there’s any way to “toughen up” the skin in that area. Appreciate the help!
