How can I Prevent Itchy Skin from Wearing an Apple Watch?

I purchased an Apple Watch and began wearing it last week. I started off itchy behind the watch, then developed bumps, and finally blistered. They’re in the circle shape of sensors, so I’m guessing I’m allergic to them. I’ve put a Bandaid on to cover it up temporarily to heal, however this makes my watch lock due to covering the sensors.

Has anyone found a method of keeping skin safe and also allowing the watch to function?

I’ve called into Apple Support and received advice from a kind representative to try the other side of my wrist or the other wrist. I’ll try this for a few days. It’s not painful, but I can’t have a preventable itchy spot. I initially was supposed to talk to someone from the safety team, but they couldn’t hear me and hung up - totally understandable. The person I talked to was not from the safety team, so I’m hoping I’ll be contacted by their team for additional recommendations shortly.

Thank you!

It may interfere with your metrics such as Heart Rate, Wrist Temperature, Blood Oxygen (disabled on some watches in the US), Heart Rate Variability, and Respiratory Rate. You can purchase clear adhesive cap liners.

They work fine for some users and others report inaccurate measurements. The cost is less than $10 USD. It’s worth a shot.

You can develop an allergy at any time. So, it's possible that you just developed it. Or, it's possible that the amount of nickel is slightly different.

Does Apple sell anything I can use as a barrier to protect my skin in the event I am diagnosed with a nickel allergy or sensitivity? I want to wear my watch and not irritate my skin, if possible.

Apple doesn't sell such a thing but there are options out there. Here is one example from Amazon:

More than likely you have a sensitivity to nickel. Nickel is used in the hardening process of Stainless Steel, aluminum and Sapphire crystal and that’s what covers the sensors.

Your skin irritation is not that uncommon and multiple physicians have posted videos on YouTube about it. Here’s a short 30 second one.

Please make an appointment with your primary care physician and get a diagnosis of your condition. Your Dr. may refer you to an allergist or dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.

Please let the community know what the diagnosis is and I hope everything goes well.

You may have contact dermatitis caused by an allergic reaction or sensitivity to Nickel in the metal cases or bands.
