The Mac and the iPad are different platforms – and normally, one platform cannot run binaries built for another. In this case,

  • macOS and iPadOS share a lot of underlying code and technology.
  • M-series Apple Silicon processors are a scaled-up version of A-series processors in iPhones and iPads.

This is enough to let iPhone and iPad apps run on Apple Silicon Macs – after a fashion – if the app vendors permit it.

If this MacBook Air has an Apple Silicon processor – a M1, M2, or M3 chip – you could look in the App Store. To see available purchased apps,

  • Click on your account name in the lower left corner of the App Store screen, to bring up purchase history.
  • Then click on the iPhone & iPad Apps tab.
