iPhone's battery health down by 5% in a week

just got my iphone 12 , have been using it quite consistently and the battery life has been excellent lasting me about a day but noticed the battery health declined by 5% in just a few weeks , surely that’s not normal?? as on my previous iphone 8 the battery health stayed the same for a few years any advice ??

a 1% per month drop is completely fine , but 5% in a month isn’t so if the battery health keeps declining at such a rate i’m going to have to replace it sooner rather than later , any idea what could’ve caused a 5% decline in only about a month or could it possibly be false readings?? i don’t let it die below 20% and don’t charge it above 90%

You will be fine. No drop you see in 1 month is predictive in what you can expect in future months. Some months will drop more and other months will not drop at all, users have found over an extended period of time it is about a 1% drop per month. You can also compare with charge cycles. For about every 25 charge cycles, it should reflect about a 1% drop in battery heath. Again this is an average. If you are at 95% battery health, then it would be expected on 125 charge cycles.

If you manually stop the phone from charging to 100%, then you have contributed to the inaccuracy of reporting in the previous months. The phone must charge to 100% to recalibrate and if you use the Optimized Charging option, you will see it charging to 100% on occasion for this recalibration. I would recommend using the Optimized Charging option and charge your phone every night while you are sleeping to learn your charging schedule.

Battery Health decline has NEVER been linear. You don't get a precise 1% drop per month. It can remain steady for some time, then drop a few points in a short period of time. The point is, if you've only had a 5% decline and have owned your phone longer than 5 months, which is more than likely with an iPhone 12, there is nothing to be concerned about.

Again, for an iPhone which has been out now since 2020, and you are not the original owner, we can't know how long the phone has been in service, but it's more than likely in excess of a year or more, so a Battery Health of 89% would not be cause for concern and would actually be normal.

When the battery health dips to 80%, it will then be time to pay Apple to replace the battery.
