AirPods Pro 2 Hearing Test fails with "Unable to classify due to background noise" error.

Hearing test keeps stopping stating it is unable to classify due to background noise. The only noise is me breathing! I've tried four times now and can't get through one ear without the test stopping at 75% finished.

Wow, this is discouraging. I purchased the AirPods specifically for this option and, while I like them a lot for podcasts, etc., it’s a shame that I can’t even get through the hearing test in a completely windowless, soundproof room! I sure hope Apple can address this soon.

I just tried mine again and I successfully got through the test and they are now working as hearing aids. I can hear sounds that I am assuming I should be hearing. This sounds similar to the hearing aids I demoed at Costco. I have money in my HSA for 2025 to get real hearing aids as I am under no illusions that AirPods Pro can replace real hearing aids. But as I think about wearing hearing aids, I have a lot of questions and concerns about getting the real hearing aids. Like I like to listen to music and to me, using AirPods to listen to music, the music sounds pretty good. I noticed with the hearing aid curve added to the AirPods makes them sound better, so that is good. The hearing aids I will be getting you can bluetooth to your phone for phone calls or listen to music, but while they work for conversations. So I can see me taking out the HA and putting the AirPods in when I want to listen to music. I also ride motorcycles and have bluetooth communicators in the helmet and there are speakers in the helmet. The problem with HA is that the sound is collected behind the ear so I will have to take them out when I ride the motorcycle. I might just get some ear plugs with speakers in them like NASCAR drivers wear that blocks the outside sound but allows you to listen easily. Then I have issues with wearing a winter hat and other inconveniences of them. But I guess there must be away around it as lots of people wear HA and have dealt with these issues before.

Yeah, did that but there was no option to update a test - only to create a new one. I assumed because there wasn't one to update. I may have missed something though. Unfortunately I sent them back so can't check. I was hoping for a firmware update that would enable me to use the built-in hearing test. Wondering whether to re-order

My husband was trying a few times so then I tried with his AirPods and same phone and I got through the test but I have no hearing problems, so is it not meant to be used by people with hearing loss??! After I got finished, he tried again and again! I even suggest he cheat to see if he could get through it and he could but that doesn’t help him so he tried again and now here I am! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I encountered the same issue, and I found a simple solution that worked perfectly for me. First, insert the AirPods Pro 2 as usual. Then, place a pair of regular over-ear headphones over your ears while performing the hearing test. The over-ear headphones help to significantly reduce external noise, allowing the test to proceed without interruptions. Hope this helps!
