AirPods Pro 2 Hearing Test fails with "Unable to classify due to background noise" error.

Hearing test keeps stopping stating it is unable to classify due to background noise. The only noise is me breathing! I've tried four times now and can't get through one ear without the test stopping at 75% finished.

Update to my previous post (see below):

I tried the hearing test again on my iPhone 12 Pro using my over-ear aviation headset with gel ear seals covering the ears with the airpods pro - and it worked!

Same problem with me - "Unable to Classify" because of background noise. I tried the hearing test on my iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 18.1 more than 15 times, but always failed during the test for the left ear, the test canceled after about 60-80 %. I also tried on an iPhone 12 mini with iOS 18.1 and the hearing test worked 3 out of 6 times. I did the tests in a very quiet room, there was absolutely no noise. I took the data from the successful tests on the iPhone 12 mini and transferred them manually to the Health app on my iPhone 12 Pro so the AirPods can now use that audiogram for adjustments.

The servers being overwhelmed is definitely a possibility. I’d considered that as well. Another I haven’t tested is if they are also using the phone mic for background noise testing. Although I’ve seen it kick out immediately when things actually get noisy. So it would still be weird that it waits until everything is completed to fail. Which makes me think it’s a sever communication issue. However I’m going to try testing with my phone on a table instead of holding it, on the premise that rustling over the mic on the phone with my other hand could be the errant noise.

@peaky: In Mimi, share the hearing result with the Health app.

Once that is done, go to the AirPods setting and find Hearing Assistance and add or update Hearing Test results. You should see the Mimi result.

I do have very old prescription hearing aids (Resound brand), and I wanted to compare the AirPods to those.  As far as hearing aids go, the AirPods are very inferior, although this is not using the AirPods test.   My old hearing aids were something like $4k, so this isn't too surprising.    I will not be using the AirPods as hearing aids in most cases - only in a pinch.

Yes, a stumbling block I had to deal with also. On the iPhone, I went to Bluetooth, which should be on, then to the list of devices (maybe only the AirPods there), then to the information button, the i in the circle , in blue. There is a category in Hearing Health called Hearing Assistance. It should be ON. Go into that, scroll down to Update Hearing Test Results. That should get you pretty close to the finish line. I was able to find the mimi test from there, and upload it.
