Some previous responses to this question are to fix the MAIL swoosh not the MESSAGE swoosh. Some have suggested turning off message notifications, or switching the phone to silent. These are workarounds not solutions. Is there a setting to turn off that annoying sound? If there is no way to do this—and you know for sure—please state that.

Two responses (one from a very experienced user) indicate, as with previous questions and responses, that the only way to silence the swoosh is to turn off message notifications. I don't want to silence notifications when I receive a message, as stated above. I conclude that Apple provides no setting that silences the message send swoosh without silencing other message sounds. Ridiculous to require a pointless noise if one wants to also have important notifications, but that's the way it is. I post this just to have it in the thread. Thank you for your answers. It is valuable to me to have a confirmation one way or the other.

Just to be clear, if you're willing to live without the vibration/haptic alerts for messages, option #2 that I described above does silence the swoosh sound when you send a message, while leaving audible notifications turned on for incoming messages.
