New iMac 24" 2024 - Old iMac 27" 2017
Hi Community, this is probably a simple question to answer but I'm trying to understand the working power differential between my maxed up iMac 2017 27" model and a spec'd up iMac 2024 24" (assuming that it's not worth waiting any more for an iMac Pro with a 27" or above screen):
2017 iMac - 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 - Memory: 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
2024 iMac - M4 10-core CPU, 10 Core GPU, 16-core Neural engine - bumped up unified memory to 32GB.
My 2017 iMac can't be updated any more and I'm a couple of OS systems behind. I'm a professional graphic designer and run huge Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop files - no gaming, no video work.
As Apple don't quote in the GHz terms anymore, and in 2017 I maxed up the iMac to the most power that I could, I'm wondering if I'd notice a significant increase in performance, or indeed would I be disappointed by a new M4 iMac?.
The M4 chip is obviously newer and more efficient and powerful than a 2017 Intel chip, but how would they compare in working terms for my everyday graphic design usage?
Many thanks for any advice. Drew Hughes
