running macOS Catalina 10.15.7 on late 2013 I Mac 27"

Have I been dumped by Apple as being to old?

I can count its 11 years but for the amount of use it renders the product as very expensive if I have to replace it as it won't run new software and apps?

What are my options?

The iMac 27" Late 2013 cannot run any macOS newer than 10.15 Catalina.

You only option for running anything newer is to buy a newer Mac.

The new Mac mini is extremely capable and performance will blow away the 2013 iMac. The Mac mini and an inexpensive monitor are all you would need to buy since you have the keyboard and mouse for the iMac.

If cost is a consideration, you might take a look at Apple's refurbished offerings here:

You might also look at used offerings from OWC/macsales and MacofAllTrades.

Avoid eBay, Craig's List, OfferUp, LetGo, etc. A Mac that has not been properly prepared for sale can easily become a door stop.

Catalina is not enough to run current software from the likes of Microsoft and Adobe – whose policy is to support only the "most recent three".

I believe there are also versions of the backup utilities Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper! that support Catalina.

This may be enough to extend the useful life of that iMac. If not, consider that 11 years is an eternity in computer time, given how quickly computer technology evolves.
