external touch id scanner

Here is a slightly different question.

I have a MacBook Pro with 2 external monitors, external keyboard and mouse. The MacBook is tucked away on the keyboard tray, so if I need to use touch ID, I have to pull it out, open, scan,.......

I have done some research, but haven't found a definitive answer:

Is there an external touch ID reader/scanner that is compatible with MacOS AND is not connected directly to the MacBook? In other words - the scanner can sit, easily accessible, on the desk, while connected via USB (or whatever) to the MacBook. I've seen some on Amazon, but they appear to be for Windows only.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.1

No.

If it is a M-series Mac you can use an external magic keyboard w/ TouchID
