Explain RESET option (iPhone 17) in “Transfer and Reset”

iPad corrupted! Want to reconfigure it to another Apple ID (not currently on another device). Currently I can open settings/general/transfer or reset iPhone.

A level 10 community advisor posted that the “EraseAll Content and Settings” option is a factory reset (and back to time of purchase?).

AND “Reset” option does what?

iPad mini 6, 17

Is this about iPhone or iPad? The title and question contradict on this.

iPad corrupted!

What does that mean?

Want to reconfigure it to another Apple ID (not currently on another device).

You may do so, but that is unrelated to whatever happened to the iPad. The Apple Account itself is not the cause of any issues in operating the iPad. This is a good guide for registering an Apple mobile device with a different Apple Account: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support. Depending on what functions were active, it may need a bit more than just ‘Erase all content and settings’.

That was an accurate reply. See here for an explanation: Reset iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support

  • ‘Reset’ here brings settings back to default, but keeps your content (if present). Reset will give you more options to choose from, in case you want to reset only something specific. The Apple Account stays.
  • ‘Erase all content and settings’ removes all. Apple account is removed too. It will not downgrade the iPadOS system software, so in many cases not really 100% “back to time of purchase”. After ‘Erase all content and settings’, you should be presented with the setup questions, just like with a new device.

Many thanks for the reply! I managed to find the explanation for both “Reset” (is to reset default settings without erasing personal data) and “Erase all ….” ( resets defaults, INCLUDING personal data; aka “Factory Reset” as mentioned by SravanKrA post.

Further investigations lead me to believe that not being able to log onto Apple account could have been caused through Accessibility/Control Nearby Devices.

“Reset” didn’t accomplish resetting the Apple ID/Apple Account; but “EraseAll Content and Settings” did. 😊
