Sequoia 15.1 is slows iMessage & WhatsApp keyboard input

Since MacOS 15.1 update I have a very slow keyboard input for iMessage and WhatsApp. I have turned off VPN just in case.

Those are the only two apps where this happens.

CPU usage is very low on both apps

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Really strange this issue exists for months now and no fix from either Apple or ESET.

The real fix is to disable ESET Real Time File System Protection (RTFSP) (or Sophos/other AV equivalent) and see if the issue is fixed.

If so, re-enable RTFSP and make a 'performance exclusion' for "/private/var/db/eligibilityd/eligibility.plist" as suggested by ESET staff. (Open the ESET console and press CMD + , to open a new menu)

For me the exclusion is good enough. Disabling the whole RTFSP feature is even faster, though less secure of course...

I have these issues across all messaging apps including iMessage, ConnectTeam and Whatsapp. The lag makes text entry almost unbearable. I often have to write a message in an email draft and paste it in to the messaging app. 2020 M1 MBP with 16GB RAM. It started with Sequoia .0 and stayed the same with .1

Stopping real time protraction with Sophos improved (not completely) Whatsapp and iMessage but not ConnectTeam

Hello everyone.

Many of you are angry at Apple about this, but you shouldn’t be. I, speaking as a software developer, have seen these bugs come out of (seemingly) literally nowhere!

If you want Apple to know about these issues, submit a bug report on the Apple feedback page.

Also, this is probably the WhatsApp developer’s problem, not Apple’s. They probably have a compatibility issue that causes it to run slower in Sequoia. I suggest that you contact those developers about this issue too.

I hope this helps!

I've been experiencing this exact problem since updating to Sequoia (currently on 15.1.1) from 14xx and haven't found any fix yet. I've been in contact with Apple Support over it and have followed their entire troubleshooting process all the way down to reinstalling the OS but none of it worked.

I wish Apple would get this sorted out already. Crazy frustrating.

Honestly I'm already getting burnt out from this horrible update!

This is my first time using macOS, it's been two weeks since I bought my macbook air 13 m1.

After activating it I immediately upgraded from ventura to 15.1.

I thought macos is a very stable yay floating system, however not so.

It all started when I noticed slow scrolling in the system settings, when the left side of the system scrolls smoothly and the right side just jerks horribly. Twitchy scrolling also applies to the notification center.

And now I opened whatsapp for work and saw this jerky scrolling and delay.

It's good that such applications are practically few, which work so badly and have not yet been adapted to the new macOS.

But nevertheless it's very frustrating for me, I'm waiting for a fix for these problems to appear.

I wanted to roll back to the recommended sonoma, but since it's my first time using macos I'm afraid to roll back the system.

I've had a similar issue typing into forms in Safari. I finish typing and wait for the screen to finish displaying what I typed. I get the same slow down with drop down lists. It isn't the only problem I'm experiencing with the OS, so I have had to wipe and downgrade. It was literally crippling me in the workplace. What ever happened to 'it just works'? I've been a Mac user since 10.4 Tiger.
