iPhone notes app asking for password when I have only ever used FaceID

So I am locked out of my password protected notes. I spent an hour or more with a representative who could not help me. I have tried updates, reset, and nothing works. It is beyond me that Apple cannot regain a previous password for a password protected note. I only ever had it set up for FACEID and now one day it is randomly asking me for a password that it will not take? I remember my old password and know it can be nothing else other than what I am putting. So what am I to do if it won’t take what it is?!? This is truly a ridiculous problem Apple needs to fix ASAP. extremely disappointed.
