18.1 update stuck during install

I was using the Windows app, for Apple devices to update my phone from 18.0.1 to 18.1. It did the full download, extracting and got through 1/2 of the install before I received a message that the install failed. My phone is now stuck midway through the install, showing the apple icon, however none of the buttons are working, and the phone is stuck in this position. Initially when I connected the phone to the computer with USB, it appeared as a connected device. However, now disconnecting and reconnecting, it no longer appears on the file manager, as it did before.

Ok, found a number of fixes to first press the volume up, then the volume down followed by holding the on/off button on the right. I tried that expecting to see the results on the phone. However, what they did not say, was to first connect the phone to a computer via usb, and then open the "apple devices" app on the computer, where the results actually appear on the computer, and not on the phone. After trying the 18.1 update again, it successfully completed this time and everything is now working again.

iTunes kept crashing for me. Tried to do a "restore" but it kept crashing. Apple support were useless, referring me to the "genius" bar. Fortunately a friend was able to use another device to restore it to "factory" with 18.1 and then I was able to restore from iTunes.

They tried to make me go to device manager, which I've heard will break itunes updating music to the phone.

Apple you can do better!!!!

That didn't work for me. It left my phone trying to "update and restore" and everytime i tried that itunes would crash.

Having the same problem on a “like-new” but refurbished iphone 14. Back Market was the reseller. Could have something to do with phones that have been restored???
