i noticed some files take hours to export and some don't take that long. doesn't matter if its 4k or 1080p but how can export faster.

So many variables: the duration of the video, the frame size, the contents, and the export settings all play a role.
Depending on the mac you have, some exports may benefit from dedicated hardware, whereas others don't.
Can you give some specific examples of ones that take a long time vs others that don't, considering all the variables mentioned?
Also exactly what computer and OS this is.
the duration of this current video is 51:12, frame size is 30p, recorded in 4k but exporting in 1080p at 30p. i'm using a MacBook 2015 OS MONTEREY 12.3.1

I think that's going to all in software with no hardware support. It's going to be slow. Later Macs have hardware codecs of the system board that make processing much faster.
What do you mean by "slow"?
How long does that 51 minute video take to export?
It's going to be at least 30 minutes. Maybe an hour.
i wish! it takes me sometimes 6hrs to export
What plugins are you using?
How many titles are in the timeline?
All that matters.
