My Ipod won't download all my purchased music

I've recently purchased a refurbished Ipod touch to replace the one I lost. I tried downloading all my purchased music but there are many songs that didn't download. I have no Sync option and no Download All option. What's going on?

  • If you mean that you are downloading directly from the iTunes Store to your iPod, then I'm therefore not familiar with that method as that's not the way I prefer to do it (but I'm not suggesting that you do it my way). However, if you are doing it that way, then make sure that you read the wording of any messages or headings etc. to ensure that you have chosen the correct options. Apple do try to help with appropriate messages, but there are times when they are not clear enough, especially to non-English users. Sometimes, they even simply get it wrong.


  • If you mean that you are using your iTunes programme on your computer to download from the iTunes Store to your iTunes library on a computer, check your account for any remaining downloads. To do that, look in the store
    1. once in the store (and signed in) click on Features/Purchased, which is on the bottom of the store page. If it doesn't appear, make sure that you are signed in to the account*
    2. on the Features>Purchased page, the default is to display items that are not in your library (there's a heading for it at the top of the window). That should show you any songs that you have purchased but not yet downloaded to your library


Once you have downloaded songs to your iTunes library, make sure they play in your library. If they don't study any error message and act on what it tells you.


* One more point - and this one is crucial: all these purchases must be via the same account. If you have created another user account in the iTunes Store, you will not be able to download both accounts to the same library.


Once the songs are in your library, make sure that they are included in the Sync to device options (especially if you use Sync selected playlists, artists, albums and genres rather than Sync entire library.



I thought Apple would be a bit more advanced than what I'm experiencing.

I think the issue is that it's all become too advanced. It's not helped by the fact that Apple's nomenclature (a fancy word that means system for naming things in case anyone didn't know) leads to confusion::

    • Apple Music, which refers to both a subscribe-to-music option and the name of the part-replacement for the iTunes programme
    • iTunes, which users often refer to when they mean music purchased from the iTunes Store. (Users often say iTunes Music, which implies that Apple own or have created the music. It's neither of those things and (as far as I'm concerned) there is no such thing as "iTunes music". Users also say "iTunes" but don't differentiate between iTunes the programme on your computer that manages your music library, and the iTunes Store


I could go on, but I think that is sufficient example. This can then cause issues when users to attempt something using their own interpretation or definition rather than Apple's. Users then post here in frustration and the chaos and misunderstanding continues.
