Apple Watch series 9 stopped working after 6 montha

I purchased an Apple Watch series 9 in April 2024. In October 2024 watch just went black and when set in charger it got super hot. Took it to Apple Store and they sent it off for repair. Sales person said I will be sent a replacement. I got the email

Our technicians inspected your device and found issues that are ineligible for service. They determined that your device has been damaged or modified in such a way that is not covered by the Apple Limited Warranty, an AppleCare service plan, or an Apple service program.

How is wearing a watch and it stops working my fault. Not even a year old. They said I have to buy another watch. How is this not replaced?

Apple Watch Series 9, watchOS 10

Just to be clear, this is a user to user discussion forum and Apple is not here and I can’t speak for Apple. I am a former Apple Store Manager and I have a really good clue on how things work in an Apple Retail Store.

Please take your Apple Watch back to the store and ask to speak to a manager. Calmly and politely discuss the issue with the manager and discuss your experiences, concerns and what you’ve expressed above. Unless there is hidden damage, such as water damage, the manager can review the case notes and possibly replace your Apple Watch.

There are pitfalls. Try not to get emotional and go on a rant. Mangers will talk to you and address your concerns and review the facts for the repair case. There may be additional details that are in the case notes and the managers hands are tied. But if Apple is claiming damage and leaves it at that, you should be alerted to what the specific damage is and if it’s repairable.

Have you ever bought Apple Care for a product? This type of action/behavior goes a long way towards getting exceptions to certain issues, or potentially cover things like water damage etc. However, when I would look at the items you’ve purchased and have linked to your Apple Account (formerly Apple ID/iCloud) it would be a factor I would consider in making an exception.

Happy to answer questions, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Just visited the Apple Store and the manager said it was a puncture in the microphone mesh and they will not repair or replace a 6 month old watch. I asked him to show me where this is located and he did. When I asked how might that happen in such a small place he did not know. He said he would be happy to show me new watches. I asked do I get great for the 6 month old watch he said no. He said that had I bought Apple care then they would have replaced the watch. Well I will Never buy another Apple product. Switching my phone, my Apple Music and anything else Apple I have it is gone. Why do you need Apple care if they make quality products.

I took my watch to the Apple Store in Leawood Ks. The guy helping me said yes Apple will replace it for sure since it was in good condition. That is why I was shocked to get the email and my watch back not working or replaced. I have been a loyal Apple user and since the watch is only 6 months old I am just at a loss. My daughter bought me the watch for a Mother’s Day present. She spent 300 of her own money. Now I am being told that I have to purchase a new watch.
