I bought a MacBook M3 on October 28, and it was delivered to me on November 31. I didn't realize that Apple had just launched the M4 model. Since I haven’t opened the packaging yet, can I exchange the M3 for the newer M4 model?

Just to clarify, if you bought DIRECT from Apple, not through a Reseller of any description, you have a standard 14 days from receipt to return it for refund or exchange, for ANY reason. Opened or not, used or not.
If you bought through a Reseller, the Reseller's policies apply, and should have been reflected in different pricing as well.
This policy serves to protect you in case of buying very close to new product announcements, and also to correct for over-selling of "too Much" or "too little" computer by enthusiastic agents.

You are not asking Apple here but other end users. However, Apple's return policy is well-know. Those are 14 calendar days, so rather generous compared to other companies who say "business days." Still, I would contact them immediately to get the ball rolling.
