Clean up feature is not visible in Photos app after macOS Sequoia update

On my Mac I upgraded to Sequoia 15.1. When I open Photos and click on Edit, it does not display Clean up at the top, only Adjust, Filters and Crop. Why isn't Clean-Up displayed?

Thank you,

HDP

Apple says Clean up works on

  • iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max; any iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later; Mac with M1 or later
  • iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS Sequoia 15.1

So the Mac must be "Mac with M1 or later." I think that your iMac an intel based computer, is that right?

Right, OT. The Clean-up and Retouch brush ar both necessary. Cleanup is a nice add-on for removing well-defined larger objects automatically, without having to select all pixels by brushing over the object. But the retouch tool is necessary, if we have to remove small blemishes and want to specify, how they are to be replaced. The clone-brush has been removed completely.

Sorry, I was not clear, OT. I meant, that the new Clean Up does not suffice as a full replacement for the Retouch Tool, we need both.

On a Mac with Apple Silicon we have lost the Retouch tool on Sequoia, more's the pity. Only on Intel Macs that do not support the new Clean Up tool is the Retouch tool still available.

I am now using Luminar Neo, when I need to retouch an image.

I am on a Macbook Pro M3 and I updated to Sequoia 15.2. I can't see any features of Apple Intelligence. The Clean Up tool does not show up at all.

Do the photos need to be sourced from an iPhone 15 or 16? If a photo came originally from an iPhone 14 is it no good for Clean Up?

Is the fact that I traveled to Europe recently mean that all the Intelligence features are turned off? I am back in the USA now.

Are there any MacOS apps at all that use Apple Intelligence? I can't find any that work. Even Notes.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the Network Error problem persists. Then reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
