Time Machine shows disk not connected

The external drive shows on the desktop, has been erased and formatted with extended (journaled), OS 14.7, but Time Machine just won't backup.

Sounds like you need to open the Time Machine settings and add the erased external drive.

Time Machine not recognized and not backing up I'm unable to backup to my Time Machine. The TM disk does not show on my desktop or disk utility. It can be seen in the Time Machine preferences, but I can't select it, I can only "Remove Disk" (see attached). Also, my Time Machine disk is a partition (I can see the partition that isn't Time Machine however). I've tried restarting, turning off the disk and starting it again. Nothing works. Because disk utility can't see it, I can't repair it. What else can I do?

macos time machine says plugged in "Backup drive not available" Macos Ventura 13.6.7 - Toshiba 1T drive plugged in directly to mac mini not on a USB hub. macos time machine says plugged in "Backup drive not available" Toshiba drive does show up on disk top. Disk Utility had no problems erasing it. What gives?

Time Machine does not recognize my backup disk External hard drive is connected to iMac, shows on desktop. Time Machine does not recognize that it is there or allow me to add it

Thank you SO much. I did "add" it (even though it looked like it was already there), and bingo, that worked.

It's also a good idea to remove the other old erased backup drive from the list to prevent future confusion.
