Ask To Buy for adult family members

Ask to buy for adult family members has been discussed before, and the general thought is that “apple must feel if you don’t trust an adult with your credit card they shouldn’t be in your family”. This is preposterous and should absolutely be fixed. If this is the reason, they have clearly not thought of, or cared about the fact that there are families with adult disabled children, senior family members, or a number of other issues that would require certain options available for those in need of extra support and controls to protect our special needs family. This is a much bigger issue, I feel that apple is not considering the disabled community which needs to be addressed immediately.

Apple, I ask you to reconsider your position on this matter and make available not only ask to buy, but similar opinions to parental controls for our disabled and special needs family members. This is of great importance and concern for many of us that use your services and products. I am hopeful that this will be addressed in a timely manner so all families can be included.

This Community forum is offered by Apple as an end-user to end-user technical issue support service (i.e., users like you helping other users). We are not Apple. Feedback for Apple will likely get more attention if you send it using: Product Feedback - Apple

Apple may not respond but your comment will be read.

It occurs to me though, how is Apple supposed to make sure that this isn't abused? The payment method is a clever way to stop a "family" from becoming a group of people you just met at a bus stop. If you have a good idea on how to do that, include it in your feedback.

Right? I have a teenage son (17) and a college age son (20.) I love them and trust them but giving them full access to my credit cards is a bridge too far. I’d really like to be able to share my ApplePay and AppleCard but just have the Ask to Buy function activated so they’re not, like, buying a $5000 gaming account from some dodgy Russian site (which has happened…with my youngest…he didn’t realize what he was agreeing to…he was 13.)

I think I would have trusted them more with my financials when they were younger than 13 than now. (Well, maybe not my youngest.) This just seems like the perfect setup for parents of teens/adult kids; even those who aren’t neurodivergent. I can’t imagine I would have been absolutely and always trustworthy at 21 with my parents credit cards and a universe of purchases online.
