Apologies, Phil, but unless I'm misunderstanding your point, that's not accurate. The Passwords app in iOS 18 can support both a passkey and a password for a given site, but that may or may not be the case for the website. Websites do indeed directly support passkeys, and if they do, they may or may not simultaneously support a password for the same account. I would expect that it would be rare that the merchant would not support both for a given account, but it's possible, so wise to check.

Regards.

I misspoke above. I meant to say that each site will have its on passkey implementation, and some may lock out the option to use a passcode when a passkey is set for a given account. Again, best to check to be sure.

If the merchant's supports other passkeys beyond Apple's, they are entirety unrelated to the Apple passkeys, and as such the option to support both passkeys and password would be on the website of course.

But as we are talking about Apple based passkeys on a iPad, then it is possible according to Apple to have both.

Correct. But many merchants have their own passkey systems which is why I advise contacting the merchant to know for sure what they do indeed support.

But the passkeys are an Apple option. The passkey and password separation is done on the device, not on the website. The website, can implement log in with Apple to support passkeys and at that point supports both passkeys and passwords.

The website has no bearing on the passkeys generated on an Apple device.

Yes. If you change to using Passkeys, you can still directly access the associated website(s) from the PC.

To access your Passkeys (and/or other saved Passwords) that you have saved in your Apple keychain, you'll need to install the iCloud for Windows App:

Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support

Passkeys are the secure successor to Passwords. They cannot be hacked or stolen.

The other part of my question was could I use the Passkey on a Windows PC? Would I need to have a password as well?

e.g. If I deleted a site password in the iOS 18 Passwords app in favour of a Passkey, I assume this only deletes the password from the app? Therefore if using a Windows PC, I can still log into the site using the original password?
