"No Password" problem on one email account on iPhone

I have an iPhone 12 mini running iOS 18.1. Suddenly, probably after upgrading to 18 or 18.1, one of my email accounts would no longer connect to my provider’s email server. This account works fine on my iMac (os 14.6.1) and iPad (16.7.10). I have tried most all of the "solutions" found on the internet, but nothing resolves problem. Here is a list of what I’ve tried:

- changed password (multiple times)

- shutdown & restart iPhone (multiple times)

- hard shutdown of iPhone (multiple times)

- deleted account & tried to set up new account (multiple times)

- created new mail password on provider’s server

- compared all the information in the "new account" creation page with what is on my iPad, and I don’t see any difference.

After all of the above I still can’t create a new email account (to replace the one i deleted) on my iPhone. Every time i get the message:

No password provided for "***@orange.fr"

Please go to Mail Account Settings and enter a password

Doesn’t make much sense since I’m already in the Mail Account Settings, and a password is in the "password" field.

This is driving me crazy. PLEASE, if anyone can give me any guidance on how to fix this. I have a gmail account and 3 other "ora**.**" accounts on this same iPhone, and the problem is only with this account. Unfortunately this is my primary email account so not having access to it on my phone is problematic.

Thanks for any help

I found the solution for my problem: My password contained currency symbols (like $, £, ¥, €). When I changed my password to a new one without these symbols, it worked fine.

I am quite sure that this was the reason for my problem since I tried literally anything I could think of before. And I can confirm that

– the password was entered correctly

– the password worked before the iOS update for a long time without any problems

– the password still worked on other devices

– deleting and reconfiguring the mail account in question on the phone did not help

– I have multiple accounts from the same provider with the same configuration and all the others still worked fine

I didn't have any currency symbols in my password, just the @ sign, but I created a new password without any special characters (apart from -) and it now works! Thank you for suggesting that it could be a special characters. It's been months since I could send mail from my iPhone. My ISP gave up in the end, so this must be an Apple problem/bug that came up after the system upgrade since the problem only was with the iPhone & none of my other Apple products. Once again, THANK YOU !

NO it's not an Apple bug, Apple has no idea what your email password is only your email provider knows that information. And if your email provider can't help you with this situation then find another provider with better support.

The next step is to contact your email provider or look at their help forum. Perhaps they now require 2FA.

2FA is not required. As mentioned above, I have several email accounts with this provider, both on this phone, my Mac, & my iPad, and only this one email account on my iPhone doesn't work. The problem must be something within my iPhone.
Anyone else have any ideas?

As mention above next step is to contact your email provider or look at their help site.

I still have the problem. ISP has come across the problem with several iPhone accounts. They have contacted Apple but they are not cooperative and say there is no problem on their end. ISP is still working on it trying to replicate it by creating new accounts to pinpoint where it's hanging up. I suspect I need to raise it higher up in Apple Support. The last person I spoke with said it was too complicated for him to address.....

Since the problem is associated with special characters in the password and only on my iPhone after the upgrade, why is it only a problem with my phone & not 2 different iPads or my mac? My ISP also doesn't have access to my password, although their server is processing it, and the password works on my other devices.

Ask them why, Apple has nothing to do with your mail account unless you're using icloud. Apple has no idea what your email account info is, only your mail provider.

Spoke with ISP & after a lengthy time. they find no problem. All ports are open and they have no idea what the problem is, since the account works. This makes sense since that account works perfectly on my mac and iPad. As mentioned above, I have several email accounts (4) with the same ISP and all work on my iPhone except this one. Anyone else have any suggestions?
