Mac Mini M4 connected to an older monitor

I'll be receiving a new Mini M4 soon, and want to use it with an older NEC 2690WUXI monitor. It has VGA, DVI-I and DVI-D connections, no HDMI or other connections. What is the recommended or best cable to use for this? Thank you!

You're going to need a USB-C to DVI adapter to connect that old low res. monitor to the new Mac mini.

for a couple of examples:

Ideally you really should consider replacing that old monitor with a Display that has USB-C, HDMI or DisplayPort inputs.

Can you clarify which set up will not work with protected content, and why?

Any display connection without HDCP support will block most rented or purchased media.

That’s display connections not using DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, or HDMI.

DVI might work, if the controller, the display, and any necessary adapters, all support HDCP.

But various of the DVI displays I’ve met don’t support HDCP, and many of the video adapters don’t.

Check your display specs, and your adapter specs. But I’d not be hopeful.

OK, thank you. I have been using the NEC monitor on a PC up until now without issues watching purchased media.

Seperate question: I will be purchasing a new monitor within a few months and prefer to use the HDMI port on the Mini versus taking up a thunderbolt port. Am I correct the HDMI will support up to 4K, but I would need to use a Thunderbolt port if going to a higher resolution that 4K?

That would then seem to have HDCP.

Mac mini M4 supports HDMI 8K.

Per the tech specs:

HDMI display video output

Support for one display with up to 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at 240Hz (M4 and M4 Pro)
