Texts from iPhone user suddenly going to Messages on my Mac instead of going to my Android phone

  • iPhone user and I (Android user) have a long-standing text thread
  • A couple days ago iPhone user accidentally, somehow, recorded their voice instead of dictating their text, and sent that...
  • I did not receive this message on my phone...
  • ...but instead it came to the Messages.app on my Mac

NOW EVERY TEXT THEY SEND comes to Messages on my Mac instead of going to my phone.

Can't for the life of me figure out how to get that conversation back on the right track — phone number to phone number.

Help?

iPhone 8 Plus, native Messages app.

It sounds as if they are sending a message to your Apple ID rather than your mobile number. Have them go into their contacts on their phone and remove your email address. Have them restart their phone.

If that doesn't work, they may need to delete the thread.

Yep. Messages is a terribly designed app. So confusing for elderly users. So easy to make mistakes. So dependent on the user recognizing icons and the like. I miss "it just works."

We ended up figuring something out that got that conversation back to TXT between phones, but it was such a convoluted process, I don't even remember what we did.

Apple software should not be this hard to use.

Thanks for trying to help!

KiltedTim is correct. I am, by forum standards, fairly young. I'm only 62. We have regulars who are into their nineties who know more about a lot of Apple tech than I will ever know.

I hate people assuming that older people can't handle technology, can't learn technology. That's just plain nonsense. Anyone with their cognitive functions intact can learn the latest technology if they want to. Mind you, I don't judge them if they choose not to.

It's fine to not like the Messages app. You're entitled to your opinion that it's badly designed. You don't need to use the "elderly" as a justification.

By the way, I've never had any issues using the Messages app. But, perhaps I'm just not old enough. ;-)
