Deleting old applications

Some old seldom used apps appear to be blocking any new upgrades. Is there any way to delete these old apps? The problem started when I purchased and tried to install Microsoft 365. I would not install. When I went to update OS, I found a number of apps listed as being incompatible with my OS Sierra 10.12.6. I managed to delete a couple of them-thought I deleted all until I learned that some of them are still present. Cmd/delete doesn’t delete them. Dragging to trash also does not seem to delete them. Any thoughts? Thanks Bill843

As long as you have at least one of the applications, you can use https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

to drag and drop the app.

You may need to boot the Mac into safe mode to allow it work properly. Shift key allows the Mac to boot into safe mode. You will need to know your administrator login credentials for this.

OneDrive, a component of Office 365 may prevent deletion of Office 365 if it is running in the background. It usually shows a cloud like icon in the menubar which when clicked allows you to quit from it.
