I ordered a new iMac M4 with internal ssd drive 512
Do you recommend using Migration Assistant ( If possible with Apple chip ) to manage / use my new iMac with 1 TB external ssd drive instead of the inner original drive?

The internal drive will be much faster than your external. If you have more data that will not fit on the internal drive I would just off load some data to the external and keep using the internal for most functions.
Migrate Only your User Account and nothing more
Knowing before hand that 512 GB SSD Drive would be too small for your present needs and not planning to Future Proof against having to cherry pick files
This kind of smacks of a " Buyer Regard " for not ordering the M4 iMac with a Larger SSD Drive
If that is so, Apple has a 14 Day No Questions Asked Return Policy
Then, order an new M4 iMac with a Larger SSD Drive
