Grainy and Noisy Camera on MacBook Pro M1 After macOS Sequoia 15.1 Update

Hi everyone,

Since updating my MacBook Pro M1 to macOS Sequoia Version 15.1, I’ve noticed a significant decline in the quality of my built-in camera. The image is now very grainy and noisy, especially during video calls.

Before the update, the camera quality was clear and didn’t have this noise issue. I’ve already tried adjusting the lighting in my room and thoroughly cleaned the camera lens to rule out any dirt or low-light issues. Unfortunately, the graininess persists even in bright settings.

Is anyone else with an M1 MacBook Pro facing this issue after the update? Could this be related to the new macOS update? Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here but with a twist, when I open FaceTime to start a call, my image is extremely grainy. The minute I'm connected to a FaceTime call using my MacBook Pro M1, it seems to be fine and clears up and is totally fine. I do not have any echo like others have mentioned.

Same. M1 Max, on 15.1.1

I also note that the Continuity Camera (using the iPhone's camera) does not have the problem, so it would seem to be something specific to the FaceTime camera rather than camera processing in general.

I encountered the same problem. I updated today as well, and all of a sudden, my camera quality declined, and noise cancellation didn't seem to work properly.

15.1.1 (24B91) - still the same, though I noticed using the camera outside in bright light, the problem mostly goes away, but inside with a well-lit interior room is still quite noisy

Same here:

Apple M1 Max

32GB RAM

Sequoia 15.1.1 (build 24B91)

Edit: when I asked my audience how do they receive my video quality, they said all was good, i.e. no noise...

Me too. MacBook Pro M1, macOS Sequoia - not sure if it as 15 or 15.1. No problems with the microphone. It's surprisingly bad. I didn't really notice as much with tiny video call windows, but when I look at it full size, something is definitely wrong.
