80% charge limit feature in iPad

The 80% charge limit feature, is it implemented by bypassing the power from cable to power ipad air directly? Or is it just stop gag method that like closes the gate and wont accept power off the cable.

I need to know how apple is implementing it inpad airs.

The iPad will charge at its maximum supported charging rate until it reaches ~80 of full capacity - at which point the iPad, de-ending upon its settings, will either:

a) continue to charge the battery at a reduced charging rate, until the iPad reaches full charge, or

b) will "float" charge the iPad battery - maintaining the battery at ~80%. The actual state of charge may fluctuate by a few percent either side of 80%.

Beyond 80% state of charge, the charging rate is automatically reduced to protect the battery. The maximum charging rate, from a suitable USB-C Power Adapter that supports USB PD (Power Delivery), is limited by the iPad to ~28W.

Your iPad always draws power from its battery - ensuring that peak power-demands are always met if the connected Power Adapter itself has insufficient capacity. In actual fact, the iPad cannot operate at all in isolation from its battery; if the battery fails, the iPad will not boot to a running state regardless of being connected to an external power source.

When configured to limit battery charging to 80%, your iPad "balances" the instantaneous power demands of the iPad, battery charging and available external power supply.

You needn't concern yourself with the technical aspects of "how" the iPad's battery charging is optimised. Attempting to second-guess the automatic process, to manage your iPad's optimum charging, can be to its detriment.

Thank you for your timely reply, i understand it a bit.

The reason I asked it is, i wanted to extend my ipad's life, I thought after it reaches 80% it will bypass the power from cable to power the ipad(not use battery) like how laptops do thus ensuring my charge cycles will not increase and no heat or harm will come to my battery.
