How to unlock MacBook EFI/Firmware lock

Hey all, I bought the 2015 12" MacBook Retina model back in early 2016, though in 2020, it refused to boot and just today I got signal on my monitor as the LCD is broken with a padlock meaning that its Firmware Locked, I do have purchase proof and I do have the apple ID that the macbook was used with. Do I have it to an Apple Store in order for them to remove the lock and do I have to pay for it?

If you cannot supply the password, then you will have to set up a service appointment with an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The difficulty of getting past a firmware password is both its attraction – the reason people used it in the first place - and its drawback – the reason you NEVER want to forget that password.

You will need to bring your Mac to the appointment, along with your original receipt or proof of purchase. I don't know whether that broken screen is going to throw a monkey wrench into the works - and I don't know whether you'd be charged for the service trip.
