Subtitles and narrating

I had subtitles turned off. Now Apple seems to have subtitles for every show and the only way to turn it off is in the show, using the speech bubble and then turning it off. Once I start watching it again sometimes it turns it back on and I have to proceed to turn it off again. Once turned off I then have the show narrating and have to turn the round circle with lines in it, to English only. Then I have to do this every time I go back to watching the show. How do I turn the subtitles and narrating off? I only want to turn it on if I am watching a show in another language. This is happening on both my Sony tv and my Apple iPad.

For the Apple TV app on smart TVs and third party streaming devices:

  • Please check the setting for Automatic Subtitles,
  • Please check the setting for Accessibility﹥Subtitles and Captioning﹥Closed Captions and SDH,
  • Please check the setting for Accessibility﹥Audio Descriptions.

These settings would be applied as default for any new video.

The Apple TV box has similar settings.
