"MacBook Air screen does not stay on when lid is opened: Seems like the screen is in sleep mode. It is on and working, but I can’t see anything on the screen. It is black, but if I close the cover and reopen it, I can see my computer is on and only have a few seconds before it goes black again."

Troubleshooting a Black Mac Screen:
A. Extended Display, Perhaps?
Do you have an extra external monitor attached? If so, it may be going to that monitor, if extended. That would mean you have to decide which is to be the default monitor. I get this in my Mac when my projector is plugged in, even though it is powered on. So, see if you need to make this your extended screen or to simply mirror it. B. How to Mirror the Screen to an External Display:
Performing the following will mirror the Home Screen, and allow you to use it as if it were you laptop's screen.
- Without Touchbar: Hold Down [command + F1]
- With Touchbar: Hold Down: [command + dull screen]
C. Remove a Focus or all Focusses:
If you have a focus being used, if might be closing it, when you open it. So, see if you need to remove one, or remove them all, if you have no need for one: Set Up a Focus on Mac - Apple Support
