Removing Duplicate Song Files
Many (all?) of my iTunes music folders contain 2 identical copies of each song. One has the expected filename and the other has the same name with a " 1" appended to it.
When I look at the Song Info in iTunes, it is pointing to the version of the song with the 1 appended to it.
However, my Sonos system points to the version of the song that does not have the 1 appended to it.
What I would like to do is update iTunes so it uses the file without the 1 appended to it.
I figured out a way to do it:
- move the files that have the 1 appended to the filename to a temporary folder
- try to play the song in iTunes.
- when iTunes cannot find the song, I can locate the song and point to the filename without the appended 1.
- repeat steps 2 & 3 for all songs in the folder
- remove the temporary folder.
Does anyone know how to do something like this for all my songs or for all the songs in an album? I really don't want to do each song manually.
Thanks,
John
